A
Every year, an average American produces more than 250 pounds of plastic waste. Recycling is part of the solution, but many of us are confused about what can be recycled and what can’t.
Plastic film
At the store we find it covering vegetables, meats and cheeses. It’s common, but it can’t be recycled because it’s hard to deal with at the MRF (材料回收厂). The thin and soft film gets stuck around the equipment and can bring it to a stop.
Plastic bags
Plastic bags — like those used for bread, sandwich as well as grocery bags — create similar problems for recycling machines as thin plastic film. Therefore, most of the plastic bags end up in landfills and oceans.
Yogurt and butter cups
These containers often mix with other kinds of materials. It’s not possible to separate them. In addition, this type of packaging flattens out on the MRF’s conveying belt and can bring the equipment to a stop, too.
Beverage (饮料) bottles
These containers are firm. They don’t flatten out like yogurt cups and they’re made from one kind of plastic that recyclers can easily sell for making products such as carpet, clothing or even more plastic bottles.
Warning: Be aware that we cannot recycle as much as we want. For example, plastic bottles are a highly desirable product for recyclers, but just about a third finds their way into the MRFs. Therefore, it’s more important for us to reduce packaging.
1. What do the first two kinds of packaging have in common
A. They are used for the same products. B. They are mixed with other materials
C. They are too thin and soft to be recycled. D. They are usually recycled in special MRFs.
2. Which can be recycled easily
A. Plastic film. B. Beverage bottles. C. Plastic bags. D. Yogurt and butter cups.
3. What does the author hope us to do in the last paragraph
A. Reduce packaging. B. Try to build more MRFs.
C. Use recyclable bags. D. Separate the waste properly.
【答案】1. C 2. B 3. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了什么塑料垃圾可以回收和什么不能回收。
【1题详解】
推理判断题。根据Plastic film部分中“It’s common, but it can’t be recycled because it’s hard to deal with at the MRF (材料回收厂). The thin and soft film gets stuck around the equipment and can bring it to a stop.(虽然很常见,但在材料回收厂很难处理,因此无法回收。薄膜和软膜会粘在设备周围,导致设备停止工作)”和Plastic bags部分“Plastic bags — like those used for bread, sandwich as well as grocery bags — create similar problems for recycling machines as thin plastic film.(用于面包、三明治和作为杂货袋的塑料袋和塑料薄膜一样,会对回收机器造成了类似的问题)”可推知,塑料薄膜和塑料袋太薄太软,会粘在回收设备周围,导致设备停止工作,所以无法回收。故选C项。
【2题详解】
细节理解题。根据Beverage (饮料) bottles部分“These containers are firm. They don’t flatten out like yogurt cups and they’re made from one kind of plastic that recyclers can easily sell for making products such as carpet, clothing or even more plastic bottles.(这些容器很结实。它们不像酸奶杯那样扁平,制作它们的塑料被回收者回收后,可以用来制作地毯、衣服、塑料瓶等产品)”可知,饮料瓶易回收。故选B项。
【3题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Therefore, it’s more important for us to reduce packaging.(因此,减少包装对我们来说更重要)”可知,作者希望我们减少包装。故选A项。
B
You might think of martial arts movies when you see people performing graceful moves down the river, all standing on a bamboo strip, but actually it is a form of intangible cultural heritage: bamboo drifting (漂流).
Over 2,000 years ago, the high-quality wood, nanmu, in Guizhou was in great demand by the royal court more than 2,000 kilometers to the north. With no better transportation, people had to stand on one log (原木) to drift down the river. Later, local people began to compete along the way and the game of wood drifting was born. In the Qing Dynasty, wood drifting became bamboo drifting because of bamboo’s lower price. Due to the skills it takes for one to master this act, bamboo drifting was included in the national intangible cultural heritage list last year.
Yang Liu, a 24-year-old inheritor of bamboo drifting, learned it at 7. “Usually, the bamboo under your feet is about 9 meters long, and the bamboo in your hands is about 5 meters. If the length or diameter (直径) of the bamboo is not long enough, it will not float. Keeping our feet firmly positioned on the narrow bamboo pole is the key, so we should fight against the current by constantly changing the angle. I lost my balance and fell in the water many times while practicing. Once I fell, I gave it another try until I knew how to handle the most difficult part, ” she said.
The love for the ancient skill keeps Yang going. In the past 17 years, she has drifted all year round, in winter cold and summer heat. A hanfu culture has been on the rise, Yang started wearing hanfu while performing, creating a more beautiful feel. In 2020, Yang began to post her videos on social media. “I’m extremely proud to get responses from viewers that bamboo drifting makes the line between what is possible and impossible unclear. It’s my mission to keep it alive and known to more people,” Yang Liu told China Daily.
4. What can be learned from the first two paragraphs
A. The martial arts movie is a form of cultural heritage.
B. Nanmu was delivered to the north by land.
C. Bamboo was costly in Guizhou 2,000 years ago.
D. Bamboo drifting involves lots of skills.
5. What is the biggest challenge in bamboo drifting
A. Finding the proper bamboo. B. Holding the bamboo firmly in hands.
C. Maintaining a fixed angle. D. Keeping balance.
6. What do the viewers think of bamboo drifting
A. Unbelievable. B. Elegant. C. Confusing. D. Complicated.
7. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. Transporting Bamboo down the River
B. Intangible Cultural Heritage in Guizhou
C. Balancing with Grace
D. Yang Liu: A Creative Performer
【答案】4. D 5. D 6. A 7. C

【导语】本文一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了国家级非物质文化遗产——独竹漂这项古老艺术的历史,并从其传承人杨柳的角度说明了其涉及的技艺、传承与创新。
【4题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“Due to the skills it takes for one to master this act, bamboo drifting was included in the national intangible cultural heritage list last year. (由于掌握这门技艺需要的技巧,去年独竹漂被列入国家非物质文化遗产名录)”可知,独竹漂需要很多技巧。故选D项。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中杨柳所说的话“Keeping our feet firmly positioned on the narrow bamboo pole is the key, so we should fight against the current by constantly changing the angle. I lost my balance and fell in the water many times while practicing. Once I fell, I gave it another try until I knew how to handle the most difficult part (让我们的脚牢牢地站在狭窄的竹竿上是关键,所以我们应该通过不断改变角度来对抗水流。在练习的过程中,我多次失去平衡掉进水里。一旦我跌倒了,我就再试一次,直到我知道如何处理最困难的部分)”可知,独竹漂的关键是能牢牢地站在狭窄的竹竿上,因为人很容易就会失去平衡掉下竹竿。由此可知,独竹漂的最大挑战是保持平衡。故选D项。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中杨柳所说话“I’m extremely proud to get responses from viewers that bamboo drifting makes the line between what is possible and impossible unclear. (我非常自豪地收到观众们的回应,他们认为独竹漂使可能与不可能之间的界限变得模糊)”可知,观众认为独竹漂模糊了可能和不可能之间的界限。由此推知,他们认为独竹漂是令人难以置信的。故选A项。
【7题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“You might think of martial arts movies when you see people performing graceful moves down the river, all standing on a bamboo strip, but actually it is a form of intangible cultural heritage: bamboo drifting (漂流). (当你看到人们站在竹筏上,在河流上表演优美的动作时,你可能会想到武侠片,但实际上这是一种非物质文化遗产:独竹漂)”可知,文章围绕独竹漂这项国家级非物质文化遗产展开,结合其传承人杨柳的经历和叙述,主要介绍了其历史、技艺、传承与创新。C项“优雅地平衡”呼应第一段中的graceful moves,突出了文中对其技艺中平衡这一点的强调,最适合作为标题。故选C项。
C
A teenager needs to have a sense of independence in their life to feel secure (安全的). To some teenagers independence means a lot to them, and I think that some parents don’t allow their teenagers enough independence.
Independence has something to do with freedom. Some kids are not allowed to go anywhere alone, and the only thing their schedule includes is going to school, coming home, going to sleep, and repeating the process the next day. Parents tend to be afraid that their kids can get hurt if they go outside into the world. But if parents control their kids too much, they may never learn to live on their own. The best way for a teenager to learn lesson is through experience. I think it is beneficial for teenagers to have freedom.
Teenagers’ lack of freedom can also stop them from having good friendship at school. Some might say this is a good thing, because it helps them focus more on their school work. I argue that this can only discourage them not to do their school work. Some parents do not allow their children to be around their friends outside the school, thinking that this will get them into trouble. But I don’t think so. Instead, isn’t this a good reason for parents to get their children a cellphone Cellphones allow teenagers to stay in touch with their parents, and communicate with friends.
Privacy is another issue between parents and their teenagers. Teenagers tend to enjoy relaxation by themselves in their own room. This also gives them a sense of independence. It often annoys teenagers when their parents enter their room when they are not home. I know that my mom always goes in my room when I’m not home, and this has brought me to the point where I have asked many times to get a lock on my door.
8. What is the main idea of the second paragraph
A. It benefits teenagers to have freedom. B. Some parents allow their kids no freedom.
C. Kids know how to live independently. D. Kids have a dull routine every day
9. In the opinion of the author, ________ .
A. it is unnecessary for a kid to have a cellphone
B. kids should focus on the school work
C. parents should make it easy for kids to communicate with their friends
D. good friendships between kids harm their school work
10. How do teenagers usually feel when their parents enter their rooms in their absence
A. Angry B. Lucky C. Disappointed D. Calm
11. The author hopes to have her door locked in order to________.
A. keep her father from reading her dairy B. stop thieves from going in
C. protect herself from any harm D. prevent her mother entering her room
【答案】8. A 9. C 10. A 11. D

I am a strong believer that if a child is raised with praise, he will learn to love himself and will be successful in his own way.
Several weeks ago, I was doing homework with my son in the third grade and he kept standing up from his chair to go over the math lines. I kept asking him to sit down, telling him that he would concentrate better. He sat but seconds later, as if he didn’t even notice he was doing it, he got up again. I was getting frustrated, but then it hit me. I started noticing his answers were much quicker and accurate (准确的) when he stood up. Could he be more intent (专心的) while standing up
This made me start questioning myself and what I had been raised to believe. I was raised to believe that a quiet, calm child was a sure way to success. This child would have the discipline (纪律) to study hard, get good grades and become someone important in life.
Now those same people perhaps come to realize that their kids are born with their own sets of DNA and personality traits (特点) and all you can do is loving and accepting them. As parents, throughout their growing years and beyond that, we need to be our kids’ best cheerleaders, guiding them and helping them find their way.
I have stopped asking my son to sit down and concentrate. Obviously, he is concentrating just in his own way and not mine. We need to learn to accept our kids’ ways of doing things. Some way may have worked for me but doesn’t mean we need to carry it through generations. There is nothing sweeter than being individual (个人的) and unique (独一无二的). It makes us free and happy and that’s just the way I want my kids to live their own life.
12. At the beginning, the author tried to keep his son seated in order to make him _____.
A. pay more attention to his study B. keep silent in the room
C. finish his homework on time D. get right answers
13. Inspired by the case of his son, the author began to doubt ________.
A. the importance of parents B. the old form of education
C. the relationship between kids and their parents D. the good grades of some kids
14. According to the passage, which of the following statements is right
A. We should help kids correct their wrong ways.
B. Parents should study their kids’ DNA.
C. Kids should be taught to behave themselves.
D. Parents should love and accept their kids.
15. Which of the following would be the best title of the passage
A. Study hard and you’ll be successful
B. Be friendly to your children
C. Children’s success in their own style
D. Parents’ help with their children’s study
【答案】12. A 13. B 14. D 15. C

Tom worked for a company that helped people buy or sell houses. One day, he took the bus home. The bus dropped him a few blocks away from his home, so be walked the rest of the way. As he was nearing his home, he saw a man begging for money. He took out some coins to give the man. “Hey, man. How are you today ” Tom asked.
“Hello, sir. I’m doing all right, I guess,” the man replied, smiling at Tom. “I need to feed my children. This is a huge help. Thank you.” Tom wished him good luck, and went on his way. He felt great about helping out. But he hoped there was more he could do to this poor man, although he himself wasn’t rich at all.
During the following days, Tom tried to give the man some money and bring him food when he passed by him.
Actually, the man, named Adam, begged for money to feed the many homeless dogs he had brought to his home. He had a job at night at a construction site. But the money made there wasn’t enough for him to care for the dogs which he considered as his kids, so he had to beg for money. However, Tom didn’t know about it.
One day, Tom stopped at the newsstand (报摊) on the street. And the owner asked him, “Why do you always give that man money ” Tom explained that man had to feed his family. “But that man doesn’t have a family or any kids,” the owner said, not knowing the truth.
Tom angrily walked away, thinking that man lied to him. He walked to where he knew the man was begging for money and met him. “I know you don’t have children. Stop lying to people. If you need a job, I can help you. This is just wrong,” Tom said angrily. The man stood up and explained, “Sir, I’m not lying at all.” Hearing Adam’s words, Tom said, “Prove it.”

Getting inside, Tom was surprised to see many dogs. They all gathered around Adam, happily dancing and barking. “I adopted these poor, homeless dogs. I considered them my kids,” Adam said. Then he explained why he had to beg for money.
Feeling sorry, Tom decided to do something to help Adam care for his dogs. Tom said sorry to Adam and petted some dogs that approached him. He sat down with Adam and they talked further. Finally Tom decided to take one dog home so he could care for it. Tom also began encouraging animal shelters and other people to help Adam and his dogs. Many people came with dog food, medicine, etc. At last Adam had a better housing situation, and he continued helping dogs. Tom never judged another person without knowing the whole story ever again.

二 阅读理解(包含七选五)50分(2.5×20)
A
Every year, an average American produces more than 250 pounds of plastic waste.
A They are used for the same products. B. They are mixed with other materials
C. They are too thin and soft to be recycled. D. They are usually recycled in special MRFs.
2. Which can be recycled easily
A Plastic film. B. Beverage bottles. C. Plastic bags. D. Yogurt and butter cups.
3. What does the author hope us to do in the last paragraph
A. Reduce packaging. B. Try to build more MRFs.
C Use recyclable bags. D. Separate the waste properly.

Tom angrily walked away, thinking that man lied to him. He walked to where he knew the man was begging for money and met him. “I know you don’t have children. Stop lying to people.
