The English that people used 500 years ago is very different from the
English we use now. In fact, English is always changing. But what causes
languages to change And is language change a good thing
There are many reasons why languages change. One reason is that
technology changes. We use new words for new types of technology. For
example, the word mouse means a kind of animal, but now we know it's also
a part of the computer. Another important reason is that different
countries and cultures are now widely communicating with each other. For
example, English uses words like yoghurt from Turkish. Languages also
change because young people create their own different way of talking.
The new words usually become popular on the Internet first.
But is language change a good thing or a bad thing Some people think
that we should stop languages from changing. They think that they need
to protect their languages from becoming worse. However, other people
believe that it is normal that languages change over time. They think
that languages need to change to stay modern and interesting.九年级 12 月月考英语试题答案

The invention of papermaking
Hello, everyone! It gives me great pleasure to stand here to introduce one
of the four great inventions in China - papermaking.
It' s believed that papermaking was invented by a man named Cai Lun in 105
AD in China. People used to write on heavy bamboo or expensive silk. Cai Lun' s
paper was made from trees and other coarse fibers, making it available to the poor
and much easier to carry.
Later, the use of paper spread beyond China and had a great influence on the
world as a whole. On the one hand, the invention made it easier for people to write
and record information. On the other hand, it was also helpful in promoting the
spread of knowledge and culture throughout the world. What an important invention
it is!
(2)It was invented by Cailun in 105 AD. Cai Lun is a great inventor. He used
trees and other coarse fibers to make papers. These materials are cheap and light.
So the papers are cheap and light too. From then on, more and more people began
to write some words on the pages. By writing them, our history and all hinds of
knowledge of subjects can be spread easily. And we can remember some special and
famous things all the time. It's truly great and unique invention in China. We
must remember the invention of papermaking.2023-2024 学年 12 月份九年级阶段质量检测试题(卷) 英语

Plunk! I dropped another pecan (山核桃) into my basket. Then a gentle autumn wind blew some more off the tree. I ran to pick them up. Whew! Pecan picking was
hard. My basket was only half full.
I was visiting my grandpa's farm in Kansas, and Grandpa sent me into the woods
to pick up pecans for us to enjoy later. I wasn't about to let him down.
Then something caught my eye : a squirrel picked up a pecan, climbed up a tree and disappeared into a large hole. A moment later, the squirrel climbed down to the ground to pick another pecan. Once again, he took the pecan back to his secret
hiding place inside the hollow (洞) of the tree.
Not so secret anymore I thought. I ran over to the tree and found the hollow was filled with sweet pecans. They were right there for the taking. This was my chance. Handful by handful,I took all the pecans from the hollow. Now the basket
was full!
I was so proud of myself. I couldn ’t wait to show Grandpa all of the pecans
I ’d collected.
" Look, Grandpa," I shouted," look at all of the pecans I found!"
Grandpa took a look at my basket "Well, well, how did you find so many, Jimmy ” "I told him how I'd followed the squirrel and taken the pecans from his hiding place. Grandpa congratulated me on finding out something about the squirrel's habits. Then he did something that surprised me. He handed the basket back to me and put his
arm gently around my shoulders.
"That squirrel worked very hard to collect his winter food." he said." Now that all of his pecans are gone, don't you think that little squirrel will be very hungry
when it gets cold "
"I didn ’t think about that." I said.
"I know." Grandpa said." But a good man should never take advantage of someone
else's hard work. even the squirrel's.
Suddenly I felt as hollow as that old tree . The image (形象) of that hungry
squirrel wouldn't leave my mind. There was only one thing I could do.

China is the country that eats the most watermelons in the world. It's not because foreigners don't like watermelons but “ they can't afford them ”. Do you
know why 44
It's reported that a kilo of US watermelon is about $6.91 in New York, which is about 46 in China. 45 But things are different in China. According to
the FAO(联合国粮农组织) , China now is the world's largest watermelon producer
and customer.
46 And the weather is just right for planting watermelons. With the
large output(产量) , the price is naturally much lower.
Secondly, countries like the USA and Australia have a wide land, but watermelons were not introduced there as early as in China. The local people prefer other fruits
that were known earlier to watermelons. 47
Thirdly, according to some reports, watermelons from foreign countries may not taste good. 48 Why is that Wu Mingzhu is an 80- year-old Chinese scientist who spends her whole life on the improvement of growing better watermelons. Thanks
to her hard work we can enjoy more delicious and much cheaper watermelons.
A. Watermelons are my favorite fruit. B. Firstly, China's land area is large. C. So, watermelons are not as popular as other fruits. D. That's because they're too expensive in most countries.
