I was filled with doubts and worries until my grandfather told me to stand tall.
For me, height was my trouble. I was much taller than the other girls, so I often bent(弯曲)my body at the back of the line. I had always felt unsafe as the tallest student of my class in Bala Cynwyd. And I wasn’t looking forward to entering the ninth grade.
My grandfather didn’t laugh at me. Instead, whenever I tried to bend myself in order to appear shorter, he would tell me, “Stand straight and tall, Alisa.” I trusted my grandfather more than anyone else in my childhood. And whenever I was afraid of something, he always told me stories of his life.

Autumn is always a golden season of the year. Every year, we Chinese celebrate our Teachers’ Day on September 10. But do you know the history of this special festival
The Chinese Teachers’ Day appeared for the first time in 1931. It was put foward(提出) by two famous educators(教育家), Tai Shuangqiu and Cheng Qibao. They got together with some other educators in Beijing and Shanghai and suggested that June 6 should be Teachers’ Day. However, it didn’t succeed because the government didn’t support it.
The government in 1939 decided to set Teachers’ Day on August 27—Confucius’ birthday. However, it was never carried out(实施) throughout the whole country.
In 1951, the new China government decided to set Teachers’ Day on May 1, the same day as Labor Day. But this wasn’t popular.
Finally, in the year of 1984, Wang Zikun, former(前) president of Beijing Normal University, suggested that teachers should be given their own day once again. The idea quickly got strong support and the September 10 Teachers’ Day was made law the following year.
