Unit 7 单元话题阅读理解练习
(2022·重庆·八年级期末)Singing Taylor Swift’s song up in bed, I am thinking about my biggest plan to get away from the school. I do think it’s done and failed.
I have tried many ways to be ill. Yes, many.
To get a cold easily, I once wore a T-shirt when the temperature dropped rapidly last week; I also enjoyed my solo (独奏;独演) walking in the heavy rain a couple of days ago. Unluckily, nothing great for me has happened.
My most stupid try took place after Tom’s story telling. Tom once told me that a boy in his class had a good idea when he didn’t like school. He warmed up the thermometer (温度计) until it got 39°C.After that, he quickly put it into his mouth and his mom thought he was really ill. I believed that boy was Tom himself because Tom was absent (缺席) for a few days not long ago .
This morning I did try that. In the beginning, I put the thermometer in my hand to heat it up but it never went up to 35°C.So I held the thermometer to my desk light. To my joy, it quickly went to 60°C.I thought it was the chance to put it in my mouth and walk to my mom.
However, nobody ever told me 60°C was so hot that I could not stand the time of finding my excuse, I gave up half way for cold water for my burned mouth.
Now I can’t talk and I have to think of another bigger plan to win my parents back.

(2022·江西赣州·八年级期末)What do you do after studying In fact, it is important for you to learn well and remember new information. Here are two ways that can help you improve your learning — good rest and sleep.
Many students often continue another activity after studying. Perhaps they use their phones or computers. They might even play a video game or watch TV. But research suggests that rest after you study may help you remember what you have studied. With less activities after the study, your brain gets a chance to rest. Rest is difficult when you have too much exciting game and so on.
A study found that both young and older adults were able to better recollect information from passages after doing wakeful rest. This study included 45 younger people and 40 elderly adults. If you want to give “wakeful rest” a try, here are a few simple things to do. Rest quietly for five to ten minutes. Do not watch your phone, read stories or play games. It is really that easy!
Sleep also helps a lot. Sleep helps people to learn in two ways. A report explains that people without enough sleep cannot pay attention well, so he cannot learn efficiently(高效地). It also says that sleep itself plays a role in improving memory, which is important for learning new information.

(2022·北京朝阳·八年级期末)Think of a small thing—a piece of chalk, for example. Are you remembering its name, its shape, or its color Are you remembering the sound it makes when the teacher writes on the blackboard
Scientists say that memory (记忆) includes different parts of the brain, such as language and the ability of sense. They believe that you begin to create a memory when you notice something with your senses. Then, the sense system sends messages to different brain cells (细胞), which join together to form connections. A new connection goes into your short-term memory. It stays there for about 30 seconds, and then it is either lost or stored in your long-term memory.
Having a good memory means making lots of connections and keeping them in your long-term memory. To do this, you need to put your brain in excellent condition. Eat plenty of brain food such as fish oil, fruit and vegetables. Laughter also makes your brain more active. Also, don’t forget to exercise. So do some sports or just move around a lot in the house. Finally, get plenty of sleep. This will make your memories grow stronger. When you want to remember new information, you must pay special attention. Use your senses—sight, smell, hearing and touch—and keep repeating (重复) the information. In order to do well in your tests this year, you need to turn off the TV, silence your mobile, and go over your work regularly (有规律地). In this way, you make sure to use your full senses on your test only. To remember something special, it is a good idea to use your imagination to create visual (视觉的) connections. For example, you need to take a pencil, an eraser and your ID card to your next test. People prefer to picture the three things into an animal, imagining the ID card as the body of the animal, the pencil as its long neck, and the eraser as its head. It may sound crazy, but it’s fun and it helps you remember what you need to keep in your mind!
17.In Paragraph 1, the writer talks about a piece of chalk to _________.
A.lead to the topic of the article B.show the importance of chalk
C.let readers remember the word D.make readers know his favorite
18.After brain cells form a new connection, ________.
A.it is stored in the sense system B.it sends messages to different cells
C.it goes into the short-term memory D.it puts the brain in excellent condition
19.The third paragraph is mainly about how to ________.
A.do well in tests B.go over your work
C.make your memories stronger D.help your body in good condition
20.What can we learn from the passage
A.Memory has nothing to do with the ability of sense.
B.People can use imagination to remember special things.
C.People just need repeating to remember new information.
D.Our brain is difficult to picture different things to improve memory.
(2022·北京通州·八年级期末)Imagine you are studying English. But then you feel the need to check your phone. Perhaps you look on social media. You return to your studies, only to look again at your phone a short time later. When you repeated (重复) it many times, it could reduce (降低) your ability to learn new material and you couldn’t focus (集中) on your learning material. It is what you might call a bad habit—a custom or repeated action that has a bad influence on your study. Today, we will explore how you can break bad habits, such as repeatedly checking your phone.
James Clear, in his book Atomic Habits, describes four steps by which habits are made. These sleeps are cue (暗示), craving(渴望), response(回复), and reward(奖励).
A cue is a signal. It tells your brain to do something: to begin a behavior. It is a cause that tells your brain to go into this mode and make the action start. A craving is a desire for something. The response is the habit that you perform. The response gives you a reward. “Rewards are the end goal of every habit,” Clear writes.
In our cell phone example, the cue is seeing the cell phone. The craving is the desire to check your phone. The response is checking your phone. The reward might be seeing something interesting on social media, for example.
James Clear notes that to break bad habits, you need to think about each step in the habit—making process. To break a habit, he writes, you should think about making the bad habit invisible, unattractive, difficult and unsatisfying. To make your phone invisible, you could hide it away. To make it unattractive, you could think about why it is a good idea to stop checking the phone. To make phone use difficult, you can increase the space between you and your phone. To make your phone unsatisfying, you could ask a family member to watch you and point out when you check your phone. You could promise to pay that person$2 every time you look at the phone while you are studying.
Today, we discussed ideas for reducing your cell phone use. But you can use these ideas to break other behaviors. The important thing to remember is that people can change their habits. Habit changes take time. But with patience, planning, and repetition (重复) you can do it.
21.The writer uses checking phones as an example to show that ________.

(2022·湖北宜昌·八年级期末)You may not realize it, but you are doing much more than just studying when you are at school. School is also the place where you learn to get on well with people. But this is not always easy. What can you do if you just don’t like one of your classmates.
If you find out that you have problems getting on with your classmates or friends, the most important thing to learn is tolerance(宽容). Tolerance means we should realize and respect(尊重)the differences in others. We can’t change the way that other people do, so it is important to learn to live happily with them.
Tolerance will make everyone get on better with each other. Getting to know someone may help you understand why he does things differently. Something different does not mean that it is bad. Tolerance teaches us to keep a temperate and open mind.
You need to remember an old saying, “Treat(对待)others how you want to be treated.” If you tolerate something, it does not mean that you have to like it. No one is asking you to change who you are or what you believe in. Tolerance just means that you should respect the differences in others and not try to make them change.
It is important to practice tolerance, because it will make everyone’s life easier. Learn to accept people for their different abilities and interests. The world is very different, and practicing tolerance in your own school and city can help us a lot.

(2022·湖北襄阳·八年级期末)As an old saying goes, “True friends come to find you in dark places, and lead you back to the light.” A friend cares about you, and you care about the friend, too. A good friend is different from an acquaintance(泛泛之交)who only makes small talk with you.
There is nothing wrong with you if you want to meet new people. Perhaps your parents have never taught you how to make friends as an adult. It is different from the way in which kids make friends. Making the right friends can make your life ten times more enjoyable. It’s much better than just accepting that you’ll have to spend your time in a lonely state.
Always wear a smile. A Chinese proverb says, “A man without a smiling face must not open a shop.” Remember the expression you wear on your face is more important than your clothes. A dog is a good example of showing happiness. He nearly jumps out of his excitement when he sees you, and that makes you glad to see him, too.
When you start meeting new people, look for things that you have in common.
The best way to get to know someone is to encourage them to talk about themselves. Dr Disracli said, “I talk to people about themselves, and they listen for hours. ”

A.Talk to people with a smiling face.
B.Look for something you both love.
C.Let a friend talk more about himself or herself.

(2022·湖南·长沙市一中双语实验中学八年级期末)How do teenagers get on with their parents I did an online survey among students from different schools. Most of them said they loved their parents but they didn’t think they got on well with their parents. Some people may think only school children do not agree with their parents. However, it is not munication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If you have problems, you can use these ways to help you build a bridge between you and your parents.
Stop arguing with your parents. Arguing is not love. Sometimes, when you talk with your parents angrily, things will be out of control. Your parents won’t think about your ideas if you shout at them. You can’t tell them your ideas clearly, either. Just take some time to find out what makes you unhappy. Then think about what you want to say. If you don’t think you can speak to your parents at the moment, try it later.
Learn from your parents. Your parents are much older than you are, so they have more experience doing things. It’s useful to listen to their advice.
Try to understand your parents. Your parents are people who love you best. Sometimes they stop you doing what you love to do, that’s not because they don’t love you. Instead, that’s because they love you so much and they care about you a lot. If you understand this, it will be easier for you to feel the love.
A good relationship with your parents can make you a happy person. It also makes a happy family.
