Coffee is the morning go-to drink. Globally, over 10 billion kilograms of coffee is produced every year and the demand is continuously growing. However, it is unlikely to produce more coffee if climate change continues and reduces the amount of land available. That’s why it’s necessary to find alternative methods of producing coffee.
Now, Finland is leading the way to grow its own coffee in the lab without using the beans. The coffee is being produced through cellular agriculture, an innovation that could make growing coffee more sustainable, according to Finland’s VTT Technical Research Center.
The man made coffee is made using cells from real coffee plants. Research team leader Heiko Rischer said, “Initially a cell culture is started from a plant part (e.g. a leaf). The formed cells are reproduced on a specific nutrient medium. Ultimately, the cells are moved to a bioreactor from which the biomass (生物质) is then harvested. The cells are dried and roasted and then coffee can be tasted.” Added environmental benefits of this kind of coffee is that it will require far less water, will have a smaller transportation footprint, and there will be no pesticides used in the production process.
At this point the coffee being produced is experimental food and have to receive approval from the FDA and European certification. The product is also being refined and needs time to come into commercial production. Although lab-grown meat and dairy is starting to be commercially available, the question is: will people accept a cell-grown replacement to conventional coffee Only time will tell if the world is ready for a cup of lab-grown coffee.
8. What is the major challenge to produce more coffee
A. Climate change. B. Outdated technology.
C. Decreased demand. D. Soil pollution.
9. Which process happens on the specific nutrient medium
A Removing cells. B. Reproducing cells.

D. Save Finland by Being Environment friendly

Creativity is usually associated with open spaces and freedom, However, sometimes it can be beneficial, even essential, to build walls, make rules and impose (强加) limitations on ourselves in order to get our creativity flowing.
The fact is that unlimited options are very difficult to deal with — they keep us staring at the “blank page”. Our minds need some guidance; if there are no rules or restrictions in place, it’s hard to begin the creative process and even more difficult to remain focused or purposeful.
Most creative careers have limitations imposed upon them. If you' re an engineer working on a new product, you have instructions, including purpose, target market, materials and size. If you're a writer, you may have length or style restrictions to deal with. There is hardly a real life example of creation that exists without some kind of rules.
Famous for the wildly successful daily art project a skull a day for a year, Noah Scalin is an artist who created unique pieces of art using drawing, sculpture, painting — any other media he had around — to create representation of a human head. Each day he challenged himself to create a “head” that had to be unique during that 24-hour period. He couldn’t sit back waiting for inspiration to strike: he was forced to constantly seek out new materials and ideas to fill up his “blank page”.
Acts of creation without limitation exist in reality only in the most extreme cases. Inventors don’t generally wake up one day and say, “I’m going to invent something today.” They look around at what there is and what needs improving, and work with the resources available. While anyone can come up with random, fantastic ideas without direction or purpose, imposing limitations is a more effective way of encouraging creativity, and can inspire true innovation.
12. In what aspect do unlimited options influence people’s thinking
A. Strengthening focus. B. Setting unrealistic goals.
C. Slowing down creative process. D. Generating new thinking patterns.
13. Why does the author mention “engineer” and “writer” in paragraph 3
A. To make a comment. B. To introduce a topic.
C. To make a comparison. D. To support an opinion.
14. What's Noah Scalin’s trick to success
A. Carrying out a fixed task daily. B. Inventing new painting materials.
C. Forcing himself to sit still for hours. D. Creating as many works as possible.
15. What message does the author intend to convey in the text
A. The name of joy is creativity. B. No limitation, no innovation.
C. Rules are meant to be broken. D. Success comes with a free mind.

“How can I get that fifty dollars ” he thought to himself. His mind was wondering when Mother’s voice disturbed his thoughts. “Kareem, I just ran into Aunty Kim, our neighbour who just moved in next door. Her son, Shawn, will cycle to school next week. Could you show him the shortcut to school later It’s Saturday anyway!” Hearing this, Kareem had no option but to obey it, He knew Mother had probably already volunteered his service to Aunty Kim. “Oh, here’s a mail from your Grandma. Open it!” added Mother.
Kareem’s grandmother lived abroad and she would send him photos and cards. He opened the envelope and pulled out a greeting card. Incredibly, a fifty dollar note slipped out as well! Kareem was wild with joy. Waving the note in the air, he shouted happily, “Enough money for my bike!”
At 2 p. m. Kareem met Shawn as arranged by their mothers. The sooner he finished this task, the sooner he could go to the bike shop. While the boys were cycling, a squirrel (松鼠) appeared behind a parked car and dashed across the road so suddenly that the boys knocked into each other and fell down heavily. Kareem said regretfully, “I forgot to warn you about the squirrel population here.” As Kareem was lifting up his broken bike, Shawn cried anxiously, “Oh, my poor bike! It’s completely broken.”

【答案】12. C 13. D 14. A 15. B

Kareem sighed as he counted his money again. He was still short of fifty dollars to buy the latest Speedster X bike. In order to save his pocket money to replace his old bike, he had been packing sandwiches to school the last three months.
Watching Shawn carrying the disabled bike home in silence, Kareem hurried to the bike shop for his dream bike. The sign “Half Price for Old Models” in the shop attracted his eyes.

【答案】参考范文
“A Speedster X bike or two old models ” Kareem hesitated. He thought to himself, “Whatever happened was not my fault. I’m buying Speedster X anyway.” However, as the image of Shawn and his disabled bike flashed before him repeatedly, he felt a shiver running down his body. An inner voice insisted that he should reach out a helping hand. Just at that moment, his initial guilt gave way to a sense of responsibility. After a quick mental calculation, he decided to buy two old models.
“Hi!” Kareem appeared at Shawn’s door cheerfully and asked, “Want to ride together ” Shawn got annoyed at the silly question. He moved his lips as if to say something but before he could say anything, Kareem took a stride to the side, revealing two shiny identical bikes magically. “What... How come No, it couldn’t be...”, Shawn beamed with excitement, tears clouding his eyes. Mother, who had witnessed the scene from the window, walked up to Kareem and patted his shoulder gently and playfully, “Son! I’m really proud of you.”
